DERP

So it's show week. I'm currently on a laptop running low on battery. I've been running around so much this week. At least the show is freaking amazing! It's been great watching the cast come offstage and freaking out.
I was getting bored of the old layout of my blog. To clarify, that isn't my closet. It's a stock photo from blogger. You would  see more sparkles if it was mine. And like I could make a college closet look like that. I may eventually customize the picture though.
This is the post where I take some of the shots you don't see and post them. Those embarrassing in between shots where I'm laughing or making a silly face. I hope you enjoy my awkwardness :) (Please excuse my lack of time to edit. And I seriously hope this isn't the first post the College Fashion people read.)

Fall has Arrived

OK. So maybe I lied on Friday. Granted, it was fall break and Homecoming at my high school. I had a great time this weekend, but no pictures to show for it sadly. I finally was able to get my hair dyed back to something darker. In the next post you shall see the awesome, almost maroon hair I ended up getting!
Late last night my friends ran up to my room and asked if I wanted to be a part of the campus haunted house this year. Well apparently I am now the crazy, obsessed, psychopathic, serial killer girlfriend who gets murdered by her boyfriend. YES! I'm so excited :)
These are some pictures from an outfit last week that didn't get posted. Oops!

50!

I forgot to mention this a couple posts ago, but this post is my 52nd post! It's so crazy to think that I've had this blog for over 6 months now. It's the longest I've been able to keep up a blog and felt passionate about it. Thank you guys for keeping up up with me for this beginning of hopefully something that will last years. You guys keep me from getting boring, and hopefully I'm not boring. I would hope so if you keep reading this...
I promise there will be an outfit post later today, but I just wanted to get this out there.

Sparkle, Sparkle

It's gotten to be fall around here. I can break out the warm things!
Update on that audition: I didn't get put through. It's OK though. I'm only a freshman, and I have three more years. There's other ways to get professional credits.
Just so you know, I'm in the process of applying to write for collegefashion.net. It's a fairly long application, and I've been working on it a great deal. I hope it turns out well, considering how many people apply!
Other than that, I don't really have much to say...

October 14, 2013

Keeping it Simple

I don't have a ton to say today. I went to the Georgia Theatre Conference (GTC) this weekend. It was a 5 hour drive both ways. My first non-school audition. It's a screening audition to get to the big audition where over 80 companies will be looking for performers. Among them, DISNEY! I won't know if I'm going for about a week, but whether or not I move on, I felt good about my audition.
Today, I felt like keeping it fairly simple.

Going Monochrome

So I'm a day late. Sorry. I've been stressing about a lot of different things.
To start with, I have my first professional audition this weekend. I'll be auditioning with students and professionals, but mostly professionals. We'll be auditioning 30 at a time, all watching each other. None of the people who are going from my school are in my group which I was really counting on. I'm really starting to stress out, but I'm feeling positive about the experience.
It finally started getting cooler yesterday around campus. It's finally October! I felt like being casual and wearing blue, so I decided to go all out.

Feeling Sporty

First: updates. Not only did I find out that I got an A on my first college paper, but my teacher also wants to nominate it for a monthly freshman writing award. I have been told many a time that this teacher does not give out A's often, but I didn't know that she used to teach at Harvard. This woman has high standards, and I met them. And that to me, as a freshman, makes me not want to stop smiling.
Tomorrow I will be working on costumes for the first show at my school this season. I will be making a real costume that will be in a real production and OMIGOSH I'M SO EXCITED! I'm so glad I ended up at LaGrange. I really am. This theatre department is amazing, and everyone feels like family even though I've only been in school about a month. It's so crazy how everything is going. As much as I was scared to leave, I'm so beyond happy to be where I am.

I decided to really mess with these first two pictures, especially since the lighting in this stairwell made the pictures extremely yellow at first.

Trying Tights and Shorts

So I haven't posted in two weeks. I'm sorry. I really am. But it's been nice seeing all the new comments. Watching my blog grow recently has been really exciting. I've gained some new followers via Bloglovin' (link in the sidebar) and Blogger. I've been trying to branch out creatively and it seems to be turning out well. Lately, I've been inspired by Annissa, who makes me want to be more outrageous and daring with my choices and own it. So on that note...
I decided to try something that I have never tried before: tights under shorts. I've always appreciated the look, but never though it was for me. But my mom brought my tights when she visited yesterday, and I decided to try something new. Of course, her being my mom, she had bought 8 pairs of tights the day before because I told her a couple of my current ones have holes. Oh mother.... (On a side note, I have thus far refused to show her my blog out of awkwardness.) So onto my outfit!
Side note: My first post in glasses. There's a reason, but I shall not go into it.

 Happy fun times!

Living the College Life

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand college. That should explain my two week hiatus. College.
I moved in a couple weeks ago, and I met these two girls down the hall. I learned the ultimate way to bond: belting out Disney songs while sitting around in their pillow filled inflatable pool! But then classes started and the craziness started. I finally finished my first two papers and now I feel like I need to blog. I've felt bad about abandoning this, but I needed the adjustment time. I will take you on a picture tour of my (half of the) room later this week. I promise.
My roommate is super sweet and also dresses well (and is my size!!). Our room is probably gonna be kindda messy, but it's honestly to be expected...
Onto the outfits though. I've caused quite the stir around campus. My RA jokingly hates on my outfits. One time I walk by her and she says, "Mariah. Why don't your shoes match your sunglasses?" I don't know that it quite translates without her tone of voice. I've worn my sheer pants, wedge sneaks, and sequin jacket, all have caused a great deal of buzz. Today, a friend of mine sees me and says, "Well hello Miss New York."

Going to College

This is an apology. I don't have a real post. I'm packing and ironing and searching and losing and crying today before I leave for college. Despite having jam packed first days next week, I'll still try to post.

I kind of want to talk about this though. It didn't really hit me until yesterday that I'm leaving. I'm leaving so many people behind to meet many more. I'm going to leave and discover and learn and forget. I'm going to have a lot of fun experiences, and many stressful ones. I don't know what to expect. I'm going to pursue something I can truly say I love. I don't think I'm scared of the change. I think I'm scared things will seem the same, that nothing will change. At least socially and academically. Have you guys ever gone through something like this?

Speaking as a Model Part 2

The swelling has finished going down for the most part, but I wanted to wait a full week. I've gotten caught up in resting and packing to leave on Saturday that I've forgotten about the blog. Sorry! I'll try to get on it. I got the photos from my shoot outside, so I thought I'd share them with y'all.

August 19, 2013

First Day

So my face is still pretty swollen from getting my wisdom teeth out. I don't really feel like showing you guys that. Hopefully it will have gone down in a couple days. For now, I have some first day of school inspiration based on things I have in my closet. It's fairly simple, but leather and lace always packs a punch in my opinion. (I move in on Saturday, so it might be crazy getting posts out next week.) What I want to know is where have you guys been drawing inspiration from? Whether it's for work or school, let me know below!

Permission to Suck

I was reading through some posts on IFB and I was thinking, "My blog sucks. My blog doesn't have any of these things she says to have." But then I thought of this video I saw from the Vlogbrothers. (If you don't know who they are, and you're a nerd, they're AWESOME!) One of the brothers was on paternal leave when this video was made, to explain the girl.

Money is Power

So I'm getting my wisdom teeth out today. Which probably means I'm sleeping right now. I'm writing this in advance while it's fresh in my mind.

August 14, 2013

Speaking as a Model...

After a couple years of people telling me I should be a model, I finally said, "Okay." I'm currently working on a portfolio with a photographer friend. We're finishing it up tomorrow at a farm, but these are a couple of some studio shots we took at the beginning of July. (The shopping I mentioned in the last post was for the next shoot.) Weather's been crazy in Georgia to work out an outdoor shoot.

August 12, 2013

It's been so long...

So I took the summer off as you can see. I started to taper off my posts towards the end, and something just wasn't appealing about blogging. I had lost my drive for it. But I realized about a week or two ago, that I missed it. I'd been avoiding looking at blogs all summer. I subscribe to several blogs and fashion sites by e-mail, and OH MY GOODNESS! I had over 700 emails before I finally said, "This is enough!" It took me about four days to go through my emails and Bloglovin' account. (You can follow me there, btw.)
You can see below part of my excuse for not posting. I've looked some variation of this all summer.

The Last Concert

For the past three years, I've been a member of the Atlanta Young Singers of Callenwolde. I cannot describe the amazing things I have experienced with this choir. I have made so many great friends, and I have become a much better musician through them. We had our final Youth Chorale (the high school part of the choir) recital last night. I figured since I was absent for Memorial Day (My family spent most of the day picking strawberries and making jam.), I'd share my solo that I did for the recital.

Graduation

I'm so behind. I'm sorry you guys. I'm just absolutely exhausted right now. I am doing something a little special though. You'll see ;) I didn't get a ton of chords, so don't judge me please. I really liked our Salutatorian's speech though. It was about how our generation has done things for awards and not because we want to do them. One thing that really struck me was "awards should be a result of your efforts, not the reason for them." It was a thoughtful moment for me.

I made this headband myself. It's inspired by Girl with the Flower . She has the most awesome headbands that she sells, but none were all white for my graduation. From left to right it's my sister Caroline, myself, and my cousins John and James.

May 21, 2013

50 Shades of Red

As you can see by the title, something's going on with red. Well...I'm a redhead now! Whoo! I've been wanting to go red for a while, and I figured graduation from high school was a good time. I'm sorry I haven't posted the past few days, and that this is a short post. But I promise I will try to do something special on Friday (tomorrow I graduate!) to make it up.

May 15, 2013

Prom

Today was kind of a crazy day. I came home after taking my Economics final to rush into Atlanta to perform in the Carter Center. I wish I had time for an outfit post, but I don't have any more daylight, so here's some pictures from prom this weekend.

May 13, 2013

Boho Day

I took my third AP exam today. Whew! And I still have two more! I'm so close to being done with high school. After my AP exams, I'm done. I have to keep this short because my mom ran to Tennessee today to visit my grandmother, and she took the camera with her. My dad's not home to teach me how to use the fancy camera. Rawr. Please excuse the quality of the photos because I ended up using an old camera. I have some prom pictures I might post later this week.

May 10, 2013

AP Exams!

I had my first AP exam yesterday and my first afternoon one (ever) today. Well it started almost an hour late and the weather has been none to kind for a blogger since I got home. Fingers crossed that it won't rain tomorrow for prom! I seriously hope the weather will let me get back on track next week!

May 8, 2013

Playing with Volume

That awkward moment when the missing camera is in your mom's car under some of her stuff. Oh boy. I'm just not going to go there. Today I decided to do a flowy blouse on top of a fuller skirt with some wedges. I wanted to try playing with volume. I have been so comfortable today! It's been amazing. My Music Theory teacher is awesome and decided we'd just go hang out outside for the last 30 minutes of class since it was so nice and we'd done everything we needed to do. We had block scheduling, so we'd already been there for an hour and a half.

May 7, 2013

Lost Camera

So, um, this is awkward. Well it seems that my family left the camera that we normally use at my aunt's house this weekend. We probably won't get it back until I graduate. I'll try to learn how to use my dad's fancy shmancy camera by tomorrow. At least enough to make a new post. Sorry about getting behind you guys!

May 6, 2013

Update

Hey guys! I will be posting tomorrow because I can't find the camera and the weather is kind of crappy to take pictures today. I promise I'll post tomorrow!

Senior Week: Toga Day

Every year we have toga day at my school. It's always really interesting to see what bed sheet people choose to wear. You see everything from normal white sheets like me (we didn't have anything else) to sparkly fabric to comic book character sheets. We have to wear t-shirts underneath though too keep dress code. I wish they were a little more lenient, but apparently not.

Senior Week: Nail Post

So today is supposed to be Career day, but I spent all day in some spiky party shoes, and I got home and almost literally ripped off my clothes in favor of some yoga pants. Wearing those shoes and a floor length dress today was not a smart decision, I now realize. I did my nails yesterday, so I figured I would treat you with that.

Sorry it's a little blurry and for the black panel. I don't know why blogger keeps doing that to some of my pictures. The blue nail polish is more of a greenish turquoise in real life and it's from Drew Barrymore's Flower line at Wal-Mart. It's amazing! I highly recommend it. You really don't need to apply more than one coat and it doesn't chip for a while. The gray is an e.l.f. color.

Senior Week: Urkel Day

Today is Urkel Day of Senior Week. AKA Nerd Day. We actually had some students go up to the board and talk in a kind of Urkel voice and teach answers to some questions! This is oddly enough the day I've been looking forward to most since my freshman year. Maybe because I was a big fan of Family Matters. Anyways...

Senior Week: Decade Day

Now that my allergies have decided to not completely debilitate me, I can get back to my posting schedule. You guys remember that fringe skirt from last week? It's back! Today marks the beginning of Senior Week at my high school, and we have dress up days every day. Hence, I figured I should post every day! Today was Decade day, and I picked the twenties, thinking back to this skirt.

Hey. Sorry I haven't been a great blogger lately. I promise I'll get my act together! My allergies hit me yesterday and it got me feeling pretty under the weather. Not to mention it rained yesterday. I should be better by tomorrow for a real post! This is basically what I wore today. I do actually own shoes very similar to the Litas, but sadly, I cannot afford Jeffrey Campbells just yet. They always grant me stares :)

Roaring Twenties

Hey guys. Sorry about no post on Friday again. I literally came home and fell asleep until I had to head back to the theatre. It was a tearful last show, but a great run none the less. Today, I found my inspiration in the 20s. With the Great Gatsby coming up and my AP Lit class dying to see it together, I figured I would get this for the occasion, but it's so fun it couldn't resist wearing it sooner.

Casual for Spring

So it's the last day of tech week. I will post some pictures from this week on Friday! Again, this post comes to you from the past! I've probably been at school until 10 or later all week. Because I've been trying new styles, I experimented with this unworn olive jacket. It was a hand-me down in really good shape. I like how it adds a casual edge to this really cutesy dress.

Headband: Gift, Jacket: Hand-me-down, Dress: Plato's Closet, Shoes: JCPenny, Belt: JCPenny, Earrings: Gift, Turquoise Ring: Shoe Dazzle, Other rings: JCPenny, Bracelets: Gifts

Mint Bow

I received got this bow for Easter, and I experimented with how to wear it. Since I have rehearsals until late this week, this post is coming to you from the past! Whoo! So without further ado...

Yard Sale!

We were having a yard sale this morning, and I was up way too early. Since it rained last night, I had to wear warm things. But when the sun came out, I could put down my hot chocolate (which I really did make), and warm up in the rocking chair! Though we didn't have many customers, there's always hope for tomorrow!
Look at all the things that didn't sell!

Yes, that is High School Musical. I haven't seen it in years. No surprise it didn't sell...

My mom is obsessed with teddy bears. These were just a few of the ones out there.

Some of my sister's old shoes. I would wear these front ones if they fit. They're so pretty!

We have ALL THE BEANIE BABIES! Not really, but it seemed like it.
